India start visa-on-arrival for Pakistani senior citizens

For the first time since Independence, Pakistanis above the age of 65 will be issued visas on arrival at the Attari-Wagah border joint check post, 30 km from Amritsar. It will be a single entry visa issued for 45 days and Pakistanis issued this visa will not be allowed to visit Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala and other restricted areas.

This visa can be availed twice a year and people issued this visa will not have to report to local police stations, which is mandatory for most Pakistani travellers.
Those who avail the visa on arrival at Wagah will have to return to Pakistan the same way - across the border checkpost on foot. They cannot change their mode of travel by, say, taking the Samjhauti Express train or a bus on their way back.

Election in mid-Feburary

Tripura will vote on February 14, Meghalaya and Nagaland will poll together on February 23. 

The EC on Friday also announced by-polls to nine assembly seats spread across seven states. While polls to one assembly seat each in Mizoram, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as well as to three assembly seats in West Bengal are scheduled for February 23, an assembly seat each in Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra will go to polls a day later on February 24.

Counting for the bypolls will also be held on February 28, the day when the Union budget is likely to be presented.
